The Counselling Relationship Annabelle believes that the counselling relationship is a partnership between the individual and the counsellor. The individual brings to counselling the expertise on his or her life and the counsellor brings skills that help the individual meet his or her goals for change. Individuals coming to counselling are helped to meet the challenges that life often brings whether those challenges are personal such as how one sees the world or as a result of life circumstances such as disability or illness, death or trauma. So often today, we lack the support systems and time that is needed to work things through. In a confidential, safe, supportive and encouraging environment, Annabelle believes that the responsibility for change lies with the individual and that we all have internal resources of which we may not even be aware. Annabelle views counselling as a process of self awareness. It is also a place where new skills that help us cope with life’s circumstances can be developed. It can also be a place for resolving issues, forgiveness and letting go .To these ends, Annabelle combines gentle guidance, questioning and teaching to help individuals grow and develop in body, mind and spirit. |
